Frequently Asked Questions
The name "Missionettes" was first used in 1955 during a time when many popular groups' names ended with the suffix "ettes," such as the Rockettes. At that time, it was an excellent identifier of the purpose and focus (winning girls to Jesus and teaching them about missions) of the club. That word structure is no longer commonplace or familiar in today's culture. Because the title of the club is dated, many perceive the club itself to be antiquated and irrelevant. We do not believe this to be true. We asked to change our department name to Girls Ministries because it is more reflective of our desire to meet the broader scope of girls' needs. We chose Mpact because it is a more modern identifier of the original fivefold purpose of our girls clubs - helping girls grow in their relationship to Jesus Christ so that they can make an impact on their world.
